My Grandma Hattie was my personal hero.  She stood only 4’ 8” and was the most spiritual and vivacious woman I have ever known.  Grandma Hattie passed away on Mother’s Day 2008 at the age of 99.

Grandma Hattie’s passions were God and gardening.  Right up until  she died you could see her out in her immense garden and flower beds bent over pulling weeds or dragging heavy hoses.  She could grow anything and had hundreds of different varieties of fruits, vegetables and flowers.  People would always comment on her beautiful flowers and she would exclaim that they weren’t her flowers, but God’s, and that she was merely the steward.  Her favorite flower was the purple iris which bloomed a sea of purple in her garden in the spring.

In the painting of Grandma Hattie, she has a tunnel of light behind her and is holding her beloved purple irises.   The guardian angel also has a tunnel of light behind him.  The paintings are designed to be hung directly across from each other so that there is a ‘tunnel of light’ between the two.  The guardian angel’s outstretched hands are holding  bulbs for Grandma Hattie’s irises.
