Margie LaSalle found a lump in her breast in September 2007.  She was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer.  In the months that followed she had a mastectomy and underwent chemo and radiation treatments.  The prognosis was good after these treatments, but Margie continued to have reoccurring pain in her hip and spine.  This pain was so severe that it was often debilitating.  She quickly learned that this pain was due to the spread of the cancer to her bones.   She again underwent chemo and radiation treatments.  This time the results weren’t as successful.  Margie passed away on March 12, 2009 after a very courageous fight.

Margie  was an amazing woman.  She was incredibly smart and in the process of working on her dissertation to complete her PhD.  She taught at Georgia State even while undergoing chemo.  Even though she was accomplished in her profession, her greatest pride was her children.  She was an amazing mother.

Her loving attitude also extended to her friends.  I was fortunate enough to be included in this circle.  In the last few years of her life, Margie learned the value of female bonding.  While Margie’s friends focused on helping her get through her treatment, she taught her friends the meaning of courage, perseverance and ever lasting love. She has forever enriched my life and the lives of many others.

Margie was one of my best friends.
